North Brigantine Natural Area Mobile Sport Fishing Vehicle Permit Terms and Conditions


Permit Use top

  • Valid from January 1st to December 31st
  • From May 15th through September 15th, vehicle access to the north end of the natural area is prohibited in order to protect rare species.
  • Non-transferable to another vehicle
  • Permit holder is responsible for the actions of any driver operating the permit vehicle on the beach
  • Permit holder is liable for any damage to people or property resulting from the use of permit vehicle on the beach
  • The area superintendent reserves the right to close the beach or sections to vehicles due to high tides, erosion, or other emergencies.
  • No more than 75 vehicles allowed on the beach

    Mandatory Equipment top

    Vehicle must carry mandatory equipment any time they are on the beach
  • Fishing equipment & bait/tackle for each person over 12 years of age.
  • Trash bag to carry your trash out with you
  • Tire gauge
  • Spare tire
  • Workable jack & board/support for jack in sand (3/4 in. x 12x12 in. plywood square minimum size)
  • Tow chain/snatch line
  • Shovel
  • Flashlight
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Auto first aid kit
  • Minimum of 1/4 tank of fuel
  • Current tide chart recommended

    Parking top

  • Avoid obstructing other vehicles
  • Avoid incoming tide
  • Avoid moisture/salt spray on windshield and engine compartment
  • Part at right angles to water line.
  • Keep vehicles in good repair and not leaking fluids

    Not Permitted top

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Swimming
  • Feeding wildlife
  • Landing or launching of watercraft
  • Camping or temporary tent/shelter
  • Fires
  • Use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)/drones
  • Kite flying
  • Gray water discharge
  • Use of bayside, dune access and access behind fencing
  • Littering
  • Metal detecting
  • Removing or damaging any plant, animal (other than fish), natural resource or historic material or artifact
  • Pets April 1 through September 15 (pets allowed on a leash September 16-March 31)
  • Conduct or language which disturbs other beach goers

    Driving on the Beach top

  • The only beach access point is at 15th St. North
  • Prior to entering beach, reduce tire pressure to avoid getting stuck
  • Comply with the 10 mph speed limit
  • When driving yield to the right of oncoming traffic
  • Use caution to avoid people, fishing equipment and other items on the beach
  • Stay within the designated beach areas
  • Keep off the dunes, and vegetated areas and outside of fenced or flagged areas
  • Permit holders may not use or transport unauthorized equipment or flotation devices such as rafts, boats, inflatable boats, surfboards, or windsurf sailboats.

    Fishing top

  • Permit use restricted to "fishing" and related activities such as travel to and from fishing location, setting up, stowing gear, and the like. This permit is NOT for vehicle access for recreation such as walking, photography, and bird watching.
  • All persons over 12 years of age must have personal fishing gear (rod, reel, line, hooks and bait/lures).
  • Shall be actively engaged in fishing activities when on the beach between midnight and 4:00 am.

    Decals top

  • Apply securely to the left (driver's side) of the front bumper. This applies to ALL vehicles, including leased vehicles.
  • Vehicles with the decal on the windshield or side of bumper, etc. will be asked to leave the beach and apply the decal in the proper location. If removal causes damage to permit decal you will be required to purchase a replacement decal for $25.
  • Must be properly affixed to the vehicle when on the beach
  • Mobile sport fishing vehicle permit decal replacement fee is $25
  • For replacement decals, include a paid receipt and the "old" decal, regardless of condition.

    Other Conditions top

    Violations of park rules and regulations shall be cause for permit privileges to be suspended without a refund.

    The area superintendent may suspend a permit for up to 90 days if found in violation of any law, rule, or regulation. No refunds will be given if a permit is suspended.

    All motor vehicles operated on lands under the jurisdiction of the State Park Service and all park users shall be subjected to the Motor Vehicle Laws of the State, N.J.S.A. 39-1 et. seq., and the New Jersey State Park Service Administrative Code, NJAC 7:2-et. seq.
