When are dog licenses due?
Per state law, every owner or keeper of a dog shall annually, in April, obtain a license effective May 1.
What is the fee for a dog license?
The fee is $7.00 plus $1.00 online convenience fee for each dog. Each transaction, no matter how many dogs, will also be charged $0.64 to cover the cost of sending the tags and license to you.
What do I need to license my dog?
Per Burrillville ordinance, you must present your dog’s current rabies certificate when making application
for a license. Rabies must not expire within 30 days of the day you apply for a license.
Do I need to show the rabies certificate every year?
Yes. We do not keep the certificate on file; we need to see it every year.
I don’t have my rabies certificate but the bill from the vet shows my dog has had a rabies shot, can I bring that in?
No. It’s doesn’t have all of the information about the rabies vaccination; we need to see the rabies certificate.
Will I get a reminder when licenses are due?
Yes. We send reminders by email around mid-March.
Is there a restriction on the number of dogs I can have?
Yes. Per Burrillville ordinance, it is unlawful to keep more than three licensed dogs at a single-family
residence and more than two license dogs per dwelling unit at a multifamily residence, unless the person has applied for and received a kennel license as provided in Section 4-42. – Kennel license of the Burrillville ordinances.
Do you need to know if I no longer have a dog?
Yes. We try to keep our database as up to date as possible. You can send us an email (townclerk@burrillville.org), give us a call or stop in.
I went to the Town sponsored rabies clinic, does that automatically license my dog?
No. You still need to license your dog. We do not have the rabies information from the clinic, so we’ll have to see the rabies certificate.
