Who can apply for the Property Tax Reimbursement (Senior Freeze) program?  top

Senior Freeze/ Property Tax Reimbursement Form-1 (PTR-1)

If you meet the eligibility requirements for both 2021 & 2022 and are filing for the first time (or reapplying to the program after being denied in a prior year), file Form PTR-1.


Senior Freeze/ Property Tax Reimbursement Form-2 (PTR-2)

If you filed a Senior Freeze application for 2021 and received a Senior Freeze/ Property Tax Reimbursement, you should have received a personalized mail form from the Division of Taxation. You may also file your Senior Freeze Form-2 online . If you qualified and have not received this application, call 1-800-882-6597.

What is the difference between a PTR-1 and PTR-2?  top

The PTR-1 is the application used by first-time applicants or for those who must re-establish themselves back into the Senior Freeze program. This form establishes your base year property tax amount, which is used to calculate the reimbursement going forward. You must meet the eligibility requirements for 2 consecutive years to establish a base year.

The PTR-2 is the application used by applicants already in the program, who have an established base year property tax amount.


Will filing online affect my eligibility or reimbursement amount?  top

Filing a online is a free service offered by the state of New Jersey. Choosing to file online will not affect your eligibility for the property tax relief program and there will be no deductions or fees from the reimbursement for filing online.


Do I need to file a PTR application every year after the initial application has been approved?  top

Yes. You must file each year by the filing deadline in order to receive reimbursement and to maintain your base year property tax amount.


Do I need to create an account to log in and use this filing service?  top

No, you do not need to create an account to use this filing service.


Is there a cost for filing the PTR online?  top

There is no cost for submitting your PTR using this online service.


Will I receive confirmation regarding my Online Submission?  top

Yes, you will receive a confirmation page and confirmation email upon completion of your filing submission. You can check the status of your submission here.


What should I do if my submission is rejected?  top

You may contact the Senior Freeze (PTR) Information Line at 1-800-882-6597 for more information.


What happens if I don't finish my application and close my browser?  top

If you are applying for the PTR-1:
You may re-access your in-progress application if the phone number you provided has SMS text message capabilities. After clicking the PTR-1 filing option from the home page, click on the "Continue an in-progress application" option. Enter your phone number and click submit, then a SMS text message will be sent to your phone with a verification code. Enter the verification code on the next page, and then enter your personal details on the following page.
OR
If you provided an e-mail address, click on the "Access Your Documents" link in the e-mail that was automatically sent to you.

If you are applying for the PTR-2:
Your application is saved, and you can access the form again by correctly verifying your personal information.


How long can I leave my browser open with no activity without losing my filing submission?  top

For security purposes, after 20 minutes of inactivity, your browser will bring you back to the home page.
